Jay Z shops for new talents in Nigeria

Rap mogul Jay Z has defended his Tidal streaming service as viable and a boon to artists after a much-criticized start to the revamped company and said that he is shopping for new talents in Africa mostly Nigeria.

"We are here for the long haul. Please give us a chance to grow and get better," Jay Z wrote in one of a volley of messages Sunday on Twitter.
Jay Z earlier this year bought Tidal's Swedish parent company Aspiro for $56 million amid the rapid growth of streaming services, such as Spotify, Rhapsody and Deezer, which allow unlimited on-demand music.
Jay Z rolled out a redesigned service on March 30 at a New York event featuring fellow stars including Madonna, Daft Punk, Kanye West and his wife Beyonce.
The artists said that they wanted to take charge of streaming's future, amid criticism by musicians — notably superstar Taylor Swift — that industry leader Spotify offers insufficient compensation.
But a number of critics, including British band Mumford and Sons, voiced dismay at Tidal's launch and especially the sight of highly paid stars complaining about payments.
Jay Z hit back and accused unnamed "big companies" of spending millions of dollars in a smear campaign against Tidal.
"Tidal pays (a) 75 percent royalty rate to ALL artists, writers and producers — not just the founding members on stage," he wrote, saying that independent artists could keep 100 percent if they worked directly with the company.
Jay Z also proclaimed Tidal to be globally minded, saying that his cousin had moved to Nigeria to look for new talent.
Tidal has billed itself as a service for audiophiles. It uses larger, higher-quality file sizes than Spotify and, unlike the rival, does not have any free level to subscriptions.
Tidal has also offered exclusive material, including the streaming Sunday of the final concert on rocker Jack White's acoustic tour.
Nonetheless, Tidal on Saturday ranked 1,027 among most-downloaded apps on iPhones in the United States and was number 61 among music apps, according to monitoring service App Annie.

Multiple gunshots fired at rapper Lil Wayne’s tour buses on Georgia highway

Georgia – Multiple gunshots were fired early Sunday into two buses carrying Grammy-winning rap music star Lil Wayne, and his entourage on a Georgia highway following a performance in Atlanta.
But the police said that, no one was hurt.

About a dozen people were aboard the two buses together when the pre-dawn shooting occurred on Interstate 285 near the junction of Interstate 75, northwest of Atlanta, Cobb County police spokesman Sergeant Dana Pierce said.
By the time police arrived, most of the individuals from Wayne's group had left the scene.
The few remaining told officers they believed the shots were fired from "some type of white car" on the highway, Pierce said.
Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy was quoted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper as saying there were two suspect vehicles involved, possibly a sports car and a sport utility vehicle, both white.
Police have no suspects, "nor was anybody injured on the bus, fortunately," Pierce said, adding he had no immediate explanation of what might have precipitated such a shooting.
According to the Journal-Constitution and the celebrity news website TMZ, Wayne, 32, performed Saturday night at the Compound nightclub in Atlanta.
TMZ said other passengers on the buses included executive's of Wayne's label, Young Money, and other recording artists, including Lil Twist and Hood.
Last month, a report of a shooting at a Miami Beach home belonging to Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was declared a hoax by police after investigators found no evidence of victims or gunfire.
Wayne won Grammy awards in 2008 for best rap album, best rap song, best rap solo performance and was part of the award-winning best rap group performance.
The New Orleans native has had run-ins with the law on weapons and drug charges and went to prison in New York in a gun case.

Buhari's Government: Meet The Top Men Who Will Take Charge

With the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential polls, the President-elect retired General Muhammadu Buhari has emerged as the new hub of power in the country.

Buhari's election as president after three attempts has led to an intense struggle among individuals and power bases - all trying to ingratiate themselves and their cronies into the political calculus. There are few individuals across the country believed to have the capacity of influencing some decisions of the president-elect because of their long standing relationship with him.

Aside them, there are also emerging political power bases that are strategizing to position themselves in his power base because of the various roles they purportedly played in his electioneering.

Bola Tinubu:
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the national leader of the APC. He was two terms governor of Lagos State from I999 to 2007.

He is considered as the power house of the APC after the successful merger of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). His role during the party's primaries that elected Buhari as well as the recent victory against Jonathan is legendary.

His political acumen, resilience was believed to be instrumental to Buhari's victory at the Lagos APC convention at a time when the APC governors were said to have endorsed their counterpart Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State.

Apart from his financial muscles, Tinubu also mobilized the South west APC governors for a robust campaign for Buhari. He also provided Buhari with his former state Attorney General Prof Yemi Osinbajo as running mate.

Tinubu has the required leverage to influence major policy decisions in the government.
It is instructive that even while receiving his certificate of return, Buhari singled out Tinubu, the former party chairman, Bisi Akande and the current one Odigie Oyegun for mention.

Olusegun Obasanjo:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo played an indirect role in delivering victory to Buhari.

His public attack on Jonathan as well as his public exoneration of Buhari from any wrong doing in PTF is believed to have amounted to endorsement of Buhari before the polls.
Obasanjo enjoys tremendous respect from Buhari, and he was recently seen to be coming closer to the president-elect.

In the course of the campaign, Buhari met Obasanjo twice and he visited Buhari in Kaduna just last week. He is therefore seen as one of the people that may influence things around the president-elect.

Mamman Daura: Malam Mamman Daura, a veteran journalist and industrialist, is Buhari's nephew. He was, among others, editor of the New Nigerian newspaper and later its managing director.
He is considered as one of the rare Buhari's confidants and he was said to be one of the few individuals that played influential roles during the Buhari/Idiagbon regime in 1983.

His relationship with the president-elect is purely personal and non-political. He is seen as one of the few non-politicians that draw tremendous respect from Buhari. Though he was not actively involved in the electioneering of Buhari, he is never far from the president-elect.

Atiku Abubakar: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is another heavy weight that may likely have influence on Buhari.

Though he defected to the APC alongside the five PDP governors, Atiku is believed to have used his financial war chest during the March 28 and April 11 polls.
He is seen as one of the most experienced politicians from the North in the APC and therefore could play a key role in the administration.

His proposed choice as the party's Board of Trustees chairman may not be unconnected with the fact that he's one of the most senior politicians in APC coupled with his experience as vice president for eight years.

Rotimi Amaechi: Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is one of the Buhari die-hards. He endeared himself to the president-elect by serving as Buhari's battering ram against PDP and Jonathan in the Niger Delta and in his role as director general of the Buhari presidential campaign. Even though he didn't deliver his state to the APC during the presidential and governorship polls because of the famed federal might, Amaechi stills draws sympathy and tremendous respect from Buhari.

He is also believed to have utilized his enormous financial goodwill during the APC presidential primaries as well as during the presidential campaign for Buhari.

Theophillus Danjuma: Former Defence Minister retired General Theophillus Yakubu Danjuma is one of the individuals Buhari respects a lot.

A philanthropist and statesman, Danjuma is said to be passionate about Buhari's anti-corruption antecedents and moral uprightness.

Though he is not in active politics, Danjuma is said to be among the few senior retired Generals that believed in Buhari's ability in leading this country since he joined the presidential race in 2003.
He is believed to have used his vast financial muscle to contribute to Buhari's campaigns.

Ahmed Joda: Ahmed Joda, one of the surviving figures of Kaduna Mafia, was one of the super permanent secretaries during General Yakubu Gowon regime. An elder statesman, he headed a Committee on Assessment of Federal Government Parastatals and also a panel on poverty alleviation in 1999.

He is a close friend of Obasanjo and a former chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission. Joda is believed to share same ideals with the president-elect when it comes to civil service, policies and governance. He is also a no-nonsense person like Buhari.

Halliru Dantoro: Emir of Borgu Alhaji Halliru Dantoro is a close friend of the president-elect.
A former senator, the emir was one of the first traditional rulers that visited Buhari after his victory.
Emir Dantoro led his council members on a congratulatory visit to Buhari some days after INEC declared him as winner of the presidential vote.

Buhari commended the forgiving spirit of the Borgu emir, who was among many politicians detained under his military rule. Buhari said Dantoro never held it against him that he was detained but instead went ahead to establish a strong relationship with him.

The emir, who turbaned Tinubu with the cherished title of Jagaban Borgu, enjoys tremendous respect from Buhari.

There are also other political blocks that are bent in asserting their relevance in the Buhari's government.

The El-Rufai group: The former Minister of the FCT and Kaduna State governor –elect Malam Nasiru el-Rufai leads a group of technocrat-turned-politicians that may play a key role in Buhari's administration.

Buhari admitted during the campaigns that he was dragged into the presidential bout for the fourth time by el-Rufai.

El-Rufai's group of technocrats are said to be looking beyond the current dispensation.
The former minister's intelligence, and knowledge of the post 1999 administration could play in his favour.

The Buhari loyalists: Another group that is largely believed to play a critical role in the Buhari presidency is his middle cadre loyalists.

They are mostly professionals in various fields and they played vital roles during the PTF days.
Most of the members of this group have been with him right from the PTF days and they never wavered in their loyalty since his entry into politics in 2002.

Some of them are very visible around him now. They believed that their time has come having participated in all the presidential campaigns before his eventual victory.

The Tinubu 'boys': These are the Tinubu political sons from the Southwest that comprises mostly of professionals and technocrats who are ex-governors, serving governors, lawmakers or even commissioners.

They include the likes of former Ekiti governors Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi; Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos, among others.

They played key roles in the campaign and therefore eyeing some "technocratic" appointments.
The Igbo group: This is a small group led by Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, the former ANPP national chairman and Ms Sharon Ikeazor, the APC women leader and one of the lawyers who have been around Buhari since he began contesting. 

Though their zone didn't vote for the APC during the polls, but because of their individual commitment, Onu, Ikeazor, Senator Chris Ngige, expect something for their uncommon loyalty.
It is therefore likely that the Onu-led group may play a key role in handling whatever positions are finally given to their zone.

Regional blocks: There are also regional blocks that are busy showcasing how their region or zones delivered victory to Buhari.

For instance, the Northwest zone is canvassing for more strategic positions to be zoned to it both at the ministerial and National Assembly levels for giving Buhari the highest votes in the country.
The Northeast is also equally asking for the SGF or Senate presidency for giving the president-elect the second highest votes.

Tinubu's Southwest is not left behind in the current scramble for power. It argues that the Northern block votes for Buhari wouldn't have translated to victory (since it didn't in 2011) without the Southwest votes.

In addition to all these groups are some retired military officers from different parts of the country who also chipped in their bit to a candidate they saw as their own at a time they perceived the Nigerian nation to be adrift. They and so many others will also try to influence a new president they helped to produce.

What remains to be seen is how Buhari will contend with all these and remain focused on his key pledge on security, corruption, employment and a better economy.

Nigerian Forces Invade Last Known Stronghold Of Boko-Haram

Nigerian forces backed by war-planes
invaded Islamist group Boko Haram's last known
stronghold, the Sambisa forest, on Wednesday, in an
effort to finally defeat their six-year-old insurgency and chaos,
two military sources said.
Armies from Nigeria and neighbours Chad, Niger
and Cameroon have in the past two months
launched a concerted push to try to crush the
insurgents, who have killed thousands and
kidnapped hundreds in their battle to establish an
Islamic state.
The Sambisa forest in northeast Nigeria is about 100
km (60 miles) from the village of Chibok from where
Boko Haram abducted more than 200 secondary
school girls a year ago. Intelligence officials had
believed that this was where they were being held,
although U.S. reconnaissance drones failed to find
them.
A spokesman for the military was not immediately
available for comment.
An official in the Chadian army said allied Chadian
and Cameroonian troops were ready to attack
Sambisa, which lies on the Cameroon border, from
the other side and would move in soon.
The militants controlled an area the size of Belgium
at the start of the year, but have since lost much of
that ground since the insurgency.
Yet they remain a deadly threat to civilians, as
illustrated on Friday when they slit the throats of 12
people in northeast Nigeria as the army was trying
to evacuate the area around the former Boko Haram
headquarters of Gwoza.
Failure to crush Boko Haram or protect civilians was
one reason President Goodluck Jonathan lost an
election on March 28 to General Muhammadu Buhari, who
has pledged to spare no effort in battling the
militants after he is sworn in on May 29.
Buhari also said he would do everything possible to
rescue the Chibok girls, but could not promise to
find them.In an interview with the President Elect Muhammadu Buhari on the day of 2015 Gubernatorial election at his Katsina house,he said "I think am over qualified to suppress/capture Boko-haram within 2 months,Tell any Boko Haram you know to run away for his life". We all can see now with his actions that it's no bluff,well we all wish him the very best in his administration.

Man Caught Having Sex With His Girlfriend's Dog

A 41-year-old man has been arrested after
he was found humping his girlfriend's dog on the
floor of their home.
He was found by the girlfriend's sister on his hands
and knees and pants down.
Police were called on the scene and was arrested for
the indecent act on the animal.
He faces one felony count of deviate sexual conduct
and has been barred from having any contact with
any dogs or cats.
The accused will appear in court and if found guilty

PSG Deplore 'severity' Of Ibrahimovic Ban

Paris Saint-Germain on Friday deplored the
"severity" of the four-match ban handed down on
Zlatan Ibrahimovic by the Professional Football
League (LFP) for his comments attacking France and
its referees.
The 33-year-old Swedish star will miss PSG's Ligue 1
games against Nice, Lille, Metz and Nantes as a
result of his widely televised rant in which he said
France did not deserve a team like the star-studded
Paris Saint-Germain because of the way it is treated.
"The club deplores the severity with which its player
has been sanctioned, given his immense
contribution to the image of French football, both in
France and internationally," PSG countered in a
statement.
"The club would also highlight, in this respect, that
the player's only hearings at the disciplinary
commission have been requested after
supplementary reports were made following viewing
of images after the act.
"It is, once again, after viewing images filmed by a
television crew, that the commission decided to
impose a disproportionate sanction on the player;
one that denies Paris Saint-Germain a key player
during this crucial period of the season and its quest
for domestic success."
PSG, still in the running for an unprecedented four
trophies, added: "The enthusiasm and total support
of our loyal fans will strengthen the determination
and motivation of our players whose objectives
remain to try and win more trophies this term.
"Nothing will prevent us from writing a new winning
chapter in the history of our club."
Playing against Bordeaux in March, Ibrahimovic was
left furious at referee decisions in the game which
PSG lost despite his two goals, and the striker
appeared to insult a match official as he left the
field.
And he went on: "In 15 years, I have never seen such
a referee. In this shit country, this country does not
deserve PSG. We are too good for this country."
Amid a political furore, Ibrahimovic quickly made a
video apology for the comments.
With Ibrahimovic in domineering form, Paris will
miss him as they target an unprecedented domestic
championship, French Cup and League Cup treble.
Ibrahimovic will already be missing for the
Champions League quarter-final first leg against
Barcelona next week after his sending off against
Chelsea in the last 16.
He will, however, be eligible to play in PSG's League

1. Ramen noodles

lot of salt. Increase the nutrition value by adding
stacks of fresh, steamed vegetables.
2. Cream Cheese
If you enjoy a bagel laden with cream cheese, try and
make it a weekly treat rather than an everyday snack
or breakfast choice. Cream cheese, even the low fat
variety, is still very high in fat and low in calcium and
nutrition. Ricotta cheese is a healthier alternative.
3. Fried banana and vegetable chips
Fried anything is not good for you, whether it be a
parsnip, banana or plantain. Many of these so-called
healthy snacks are also high in sugar, salt and fat so
are best enjoyed in small doses or not at all.
Definitely don't enjoy them throughout the day at
your desk!
4. Muffins
A muffin a day will definitely lead to a muffin top.
These delicious breakfast favourites can be loaded
with up to as many as 800 calories, not to mention a
whole heap of fat and sugar. If you can't resist this
sugary treat, opt for the skinny variety or make your
own. That way you know just how much sugar and oil
has gone into them.
5. Honey Granola
Granola is one of those foods that has always been
marketed as a health food, but be careful. The honey
variety can have nearly three teaspoons of sugar
within half a cup full so don't overindulge.
6. Canned soup
Canned soup is easy, tasty and cheap so it's no
wonder that so many of us enjoy it for lunch. Make
sure you check the label of your favourite variety
though – some Campbell's red label soups are
packed with salt.
7. Dried fruit
Dried apricots are a tasty and nutritious snack but
they should be eaten in small amounts. Dried fruits
mean consumption is easy and you can pack away a
lot of calories without even thinking. Enjoy them with

President Goodluck Jonathan’s Easter Message To The Nation

Fellow citizens,

I greet you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters,  as we celebrate Easter in commemoration of  the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

For Christians all over the world, the major lessons of Easter, which we celebrate this year in the midst of general elections in our nation, are to be found in the Messiah's Divine love and glorious self-sacrifice for the redemption of mankind.

This year's celebration of Easter is taking place at a period of very critical national choices and decisions, during which we must all be prepared and willing to make sacrifices for greater unity, peace, political stability and progress in our beloved country.

We must therefore seize the opportunity of the Easter holiday to reflect deeply on what more we need to do as a people, to ensure that the political process in which we are currently engaged is successfully concluded and that our beloved country, Nigeria continues to move towards a better future for all of its citizens.

Happily, we have already successfully scaled the hurdle of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.  I am quite hopeful that the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections will also be conducted peacefully.

To the glory and pride of our fatherland, our collective actions since March 28 have assured the world that the democratic spirit is alive and well in our nation.

By the grace of God, our beloved nation, Nigeria is moving forward despite all challenges.

Let us all pray this Easter, that God Almighty who has brought us this far, will continue to bless our nation as we  march onward towards the fulfillment of our collective vision of a truly united, strong and prosperous nation.

Hon Rilwan Akiolu, The Oba of Lagos has delivered a warning message to lagosians residing in Lagos State to vote for his man; Akinwumi Ambode at the Gubernatorial Election coming up This Week Saturday, April 11th 2015.

"On Saturday, if any one of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn't happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and its not my father who gave birth to me. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being.

This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos state, the person is going to die inside this water.

For the Igbos and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they didn't come with all their houses. But now they have properties in the state. So they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God.

I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he can never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere you can not do it here.

If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you, if you go against my wish, you will perish in the water. I am for the progress, growth and development in Lagos, Ambode is highly cerebral, he's a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I the Oba of Lagos have said.

And he will govern the state for another eight years. He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change. From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultation with other people.
