Woman raped,murdered and hanged

Pakistan police said on Friday, in
Islamabad, that it was investigating the
case of a 20- year- old woman who was
gang-raped, murdered and hanged on a
tree.
According to Ilyas Ahmed, a police
investigator, the victim, Muzamil Bibi,
disappeared from her home in the south-
eastern district of Layyah in Punjab
province shortly after midnight on
Thursday.
He said hours later, family members
found her body hanging on a tree in
nearby field.
Ahmed added that there were signs of
torture on the body and an autopsy
confirmed she was gang raped before
being strangulated.
Another police official said three suspects
had been arrested.
Farzana Bari, a rights activist based in
Islamabad, while commenting on the
issue said the shocking incidents in
recent weeks show vulnerability of women
in Pakistan.
“a data compiled by Aurat Foundation and
other organisations, indicate that rape
and killing of women have been on the
rise in Pakistan in recent years.
“Suspects often escape punishment,
taking advantage of loopholes in what
lawyers say are outdated and
complicated laws,” she said.
Bari noted that in India, four women of
the low-ranking Dalit caste have been
raped, murdered and hanged on trees in
recent weeks.
